Lead Climbing

Moving Beyond Top Rope
Momentum has 7,000 square feet of lead climbing surface with routes up to 50 feet long. From 5.9 to 5.14, our color coded routes will keep you guessing, and help you push your route fitness higher than ever. Never before have Utah climbers and visitors had such an offering of lead climbs on such a variety of surfaces, so close together. Slab, vertical, gently overhanging, steep, arĂȘtes, cracks- get whatever "sharp-end" fix you need at Momentum.

Cracks

Learn specific hand techniques to climb cracks anywhere.

Momentum’s 13 cracks are designed to teach you the sizes. From “wide fingers” to “squeeze chimney”, and every width in between, we have created perfect splitters over 40 feet tall. These parallel-sided wonders perfectly mimic the relentless demands of desert sandstone cracks, each requiring a specific hand technique that once learned, can be applied to outdoor cracks anywhere.

Top Rope

An ideal way to get your first climbing experience
Momentum has over 8,000 square feet of wall space dedicated to top-rope climbing. Top-rope climbing is an ideal way to get your first climbing experiences, and at Momentum we have routes suitable for kids ages 2 to 72. All routes are color coded and marked according to grade so you can start easy and work your way up to harder and harder climbs as your strength and experience grows. All the while you have the peace of knowing the rope is right there if you need it.

Bouldering

If you spend time bouldering, you won’t just get stronger, you’ll get better.

Momentum’s bouldering area is wide and open, with smooth walls, and steep angles including an old school 45-degree wall (think early 1990s woodie) and a huge curving, horizontal roof. Little Cottonwood Canyon aficionados can test themselves on a true slab as well. High tech foam and vinyl padding covers every inch of the floor area to make the landing as friendly as possible, but we still recommend a good spotter at all times. Routesetters Andy Knight and Kyle McFarland have a real talent for setting challenging, climber-appropriate movements; so if you spend any real time in this area you won’t just get stronger, you’ll get better!
